The battle over the Iron Throne continues with Season 2 of HBO's "Game of Thrones" spinoff "House of the Dragon".
Picking up where Season 1 left off, the new season chronicles the civil war, dubbed the "Dance of the Dragons," between opposing factions of the Targaryen family. The catastrophic conflict, laden with plenty of kin-killing and dragons, eventually leads to the end of Targaryen rule and the demise of the once-great family.
USA TODAY TV critic Kelly Lawler gave the series two stars out of four writing that though the series' creators managed to address some of the criticism they faced for Season 1, "the fire is still lacking" in Season 2.
"So yes, there is more good stuff this time (they finally have figured out, at least by Episode 4, what to do with those darned dragons), but there is also more bad stuff: Multiple scenes in which common sense and logic has flown out the window, more twists and surprises introduced without context or feeling to back them up and more gratuitous violence that borders on outright indecency," Lawler writes in her review.
"There are too many side quests and not enough stakes to make me care about the battle for the Iron Throne that is meant to be the crux of the series."
