Ryan Reynolds didn’t ask to be super—but he did become a hero by making a little boy’s dreams come true.
Indeed, the Deadpool & Wolverine star recently responded to a young fan named Riley from Hartlepool, England, who is battling cancer and requested meeting Ryan as his Make-A-Wish.
In a video shared to X, formerly Twitter Nov. 12, the 48-year-old hopped on a video call with Riley, prompting a visible giddy demeanor from the 9-year-old.
“Boo,” Ryan—who was joined by wife Blake Lively for part of the call—says in the video. “Why hello there, Riley. I’m so excited to meet you. I’ve heard so much about you.”
The life-changing moment for Riley—as his mother, Sarah, explained in the video—was prompted by Miles For Men charity team member Micky Day’s appearance on BBC Tees Radio.
During Micky’s Oct. 29 appearance, he detailed Riley’s predicament after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma at just 7 years old.
“They had to remove the bottom half of his left leg,” Micky explained. “He was told the cancer had gone—totally gone. Over the last year, he was getting a lot of pain in his shoulder. His cancer had come back and spread into his shoulder, into the canal of his lung and into his lymph nodes. It’s just heartbreaking for him.”
As Micky put his request to Ryan, “I understand he’s busy—if possible, could he come across to Newcastle? Can we make it happen?”
Only a day later, Ryan—who shares kids James, 9, Inez, 8, Betty, 5, and Olin, born in 2023 with Blake—responded to the video on X, writing in a reply, “Please check your DM.”
And while Ryan has already spoken to Riley by video call, he alluded to traveling to England to meet the young boy in person at an upcoming Wrexham A.F.C. soccer game.
“You’ve been going through a lot,” Ryan added to Riley in the video. “And I cannot wait to meet you. I’m going to make sure that this is one of the best days of your life.”
And Riley’s mother expressed gratitude for Ryan’s response to her son’s wish, adding at the end of the video, “To take time out of their day just to make one little boy feel special—it means everything.”
As she put it of Riley’s reaction, “You can see what it meant to him, he was starstruck obviously.”
