A cause of death has been revealed in the passing of Alec Musser, the late actor and model best known for his roles in "All My Children" and "Grown Ups."
Musser, who was found dead in his California home this past weekend, died by suicide, according to a new press release from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office. The cause of death was determined to be a shotgun wound in the chest.
"His fiancée last knew him to be alive on the evening of 01/12/2024 when she had gone to bed," the medical examiner said in its report. "On the morning of 01/13/2024, she awoke and went to find (Musser) seated and slumped forward on the bathroom floor. She noted a firearm near him and an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest and called 911."
Musser died Saturday at his home in Del Mar, California, Musser's fiancée Paige Press confirmed to Deadline, TMZ and Fox News. Press told Fox News that Musser was suffering from a "severe case" of COVID-19 before his death.
"Alec was a wonderful man. He was the best fiancé. The best dog dad. Very kind-hearted person," Press told Fox News. "Seeing how many messages and people have reached out to me from his childhood. … In the last couple of days, people I've never even met, sending me photos from him from high school and when he was in their wedding. … He was so loved and touched by so many people."
Musser starred as Del Henry on ABC's "All My Children" from 2005 to 2007, earning the role after he won the second season of the reality competition series "I Wanna Be a Soap Star" in 2005. Following his stint on the long-running soap opera, Musser guest-starred on the network's dramedy "Desperate Housewives" in 2011.
Musser was also seen on the big screen with appearances in "Road to the Altar" in 2009 and the Adam Sandler-led "Grown Ups" in 2010. Sandler paid tribute to Musser on Instagram Saturday, sharing a photo of Musser's character Water Park Stud.
"I loved this guy. Cannot believe he is gone. Such a wonderful, funny good man," Sandler wrote. "Thinking of Alec Musser and his family and sending all my love. A true great sweetheart of a person."
